Frequently Asked Questions

When do I start taking my ABX?

Day after procedure

How long do I need to rinse with Chlorhexidine?

Typically, it will be for 7-14 days

Do you take my insurance?

Yes, we do! We are “non-restricted” providers, which means we can care for our patients based on what is best for them, not what the insurance companies dictate as the standard of care. If you have “out of network” benefits, we’ll work with you to maximize your insurance savings!

Does BFS submit a claim to my insurance?

Yes, we do! We’ll take care of all the confusing paperwork and any follow-up needed to get the most out of your benefits.

Will it cost me more to see an “out of network” provider?

There may be a difference of 25-300 dollars, depending on what the treatment plan is. When thinking about the best care and surgical expertise that you can get for your child, your loved one, or yourself, we believe that it’s worth the difference in price. Just ask your dentist who he/she will see for oral surgery.

Our Team is here to help. We’ll research your patients’ coverage thoroughly and present it to them. We’re confident that once they meet us, and our doctors, that they won’t regret making the decision to come to BFS.

When can I eat after my surgery?

You can eat immediately after, but it needs to be room temperature or cold. Softs foods.

Can I have an Uber or taxi come pick me up?

Yes

Do you do cleanings and fillings?

No

Can I brush my teeth before surgery?

Yes

How do I eat/drink with the gauze in my mouth?

Take gauze out before eating or drinking.

When the gauze comes out do I need to put more in?

Only replace the gauze if you continue to bleed. Some bleeding is normal and expected.

How long should I use the irrigation syringe?

You should be rinsing the sockets 5-6x a day until you can no longer put the syringe into the hole (at least a few weeks)

When should I resume my anti-coagulant?

Once bleeding has completely stopped unless otherwise advised by your doctor who prescribes it.

It's been 5 days since my surgery and I'm still sore, is this normal?

It can be normal since everyone is different, if the pain and swelling are decreasing and you are improving. If pain or swelling is increasing, please call the office.

When can I resume my mouthrinse? (Listerine, Scope, Act)

Over the counter mouthrinse can kill healing tissue, cause pain and delay healing. We only recommend using warm saltwater rinses (1/4 tsp in 8 oz of water).

When can I work out again?

Depending on your procedure, you may go back once you feel comfortable doing so but we recommend you take it easy the first few days. If at any point, you begin to have bleeding or the area begins to throb, stop.

When can I start eating normal again?

We recommend a soft, non-chewing diet for a few days after any procedure and once you are comfortable, you may gradually increase your food selections. If you have had an implant, we recommend NOT chewing on the side of surgery and sticking with a soft diet for the healing time you were given.

When will my stitches fall out?

Stitches usually fall out within a week or two. They may be irritating the first few days, but they will soften over time, eventually falling out on their own.
